1. How does V-Ray 3.0 licensing work?

 

V-Ray 3.0 for Revit uses Universal Render Node license. The rendering covered by the Render Node license, makes possible to seamlessly use your license across multiple 3D platforms.

By purchasing 1 copy of V-Ray 3.0 Workstation for Revit, users get the ability to use V-Ray’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) for editing their settings on one machine and also to render on one machine as a Render Node.

The rendering can be performed either on the same machine where the GUI license is used, or on another machine in the network.

In order to use additional computers for rendering though, you have to purchase additional V-Ray 3.0 Render nodes.

V-Ray 3.0 for Revit supports two types of licensing – dongle licensing and online licensing.

With Online licensing there is no wait to receive a physical dongle, and licenses can be activated in real-time once an order is processed. Online licensing is fast and secure, and customers will be able to access their new software much faster – without the back and forth of WBC and RTU files.

Online licensing requires a stable, uninterrupted internet connection. It is possible to borrow licenses and use them completely offline but for a limited time – 14 days (2 weeks). When this period is over, Internet connection is required to renew the borrowing of the licenses.

Dongles will continue to be an option for V-Ray for Revit customers who prefer hardware-based licenses. Dongle licensing remains unchanged.

2. Are these render nodes only going to work for V-Ray for Revit or do they work for all V-Ray host applications?
 

With V-Ray 3.0, your render nodes are universal across multiple platforms, starting with SketchUp, Rhino, 3ds Max, Maya, MODO and Nuke.

Also with the ability to re-use your licenses, expanding your rendering capabilities is easy. These licenses are floating, so if you need to use another workstation, you can at will.
